UPDATE: Police have tweeted that the women who were attacked didn't know the assailant. As officials are investigating the Saturday stabbing of two women in Prague as an attempted murder, they say it was an unfounded assault and that the man's mental health may have been behind the attack. One of the victims remains in serious condition.
A 34-year-old man who stabbed two women in a housing estate in Prague's southern outskirts Saturday evening was shot and killed by law enforcement, police spokesman Richard Hrdina told ČTK.
"The police searched for the perpetrator, found him, and were forced to apply a firearm as coercive means...the suspect succumbed to his injuries on the spot," Hrdina said.
Police began resuscitating the man immediately after the shooting; emergency responders continued at the scene of the incident.
The victims were transported to the hospital by ambulance. One of the women is in serious condition and was put into an induced coma and transported to the Prague-Motol hospital. The second woman has minor injuries.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the case, Hrdina said.
