Six armed attackers boarded a tram in Prague 5 – Braník and took nearly thirty hostages earlier today – but it was just a training exercise from Prague Police and the city’s Rapid Deployment Unit (URNA).

In photos and video posted to local news servers, officers are seen responding to gunfire and a small explosion, and smashing out windows of a (presumably) decommissioned tram.

“Today’s exercise follows a series of similar ones that we have held in the past,” said Chief of Police Tomáš Tuhý in a report on Policie.cz.

“Our specialized service is part of usual procedures, to ensure we are better prepared in case of a sudden deployment.”

So far this year, Prague Police have staged 60 similar training exercises in the city involving an active shooter, and have another 50 to go, according the Chief of Police.
