Prague Pride parade to be replaced with a rainbow cruise along the Vltava this year

More than 400 Pride celebrations have been canceled around the world due to coronavirus this year. Prague Pride will largely move its celebrations online this year.

Writing on their website, organizers said: “The 10th year of the Prague Pride festival will take place this year, on the originally planned date from August 3 to 9, 2020. But we already know that the coronavirus pandemic will significantly affect the shape of this year’s Pride Week.”

While the festival will continue to offer dozens of events for 2020, compared to last year, events will be reduced by half to an estimated 70 events. The program will include debates, online community picnics and streaming music broadcasts.

“We plan to enjoy the week while reducing the risk of virus transmission to a minimum,” Prague Pride writes. The decision to cancel the parade was also based on the current public health conditions.

“There will be no rainbow parade this year due to collection restrictions. There is no way we can make sure that only a permitted number of people take part in the public procession. This is the most popular event of the festival, which traditionally ends the week of the week, and although it is difficult for us to accept that it is canceled for this year[…]it is not possible in the current situation,” according to organizers.

The parade will be replaced with a four-hour cruise with live DJs and bar service traveling from Dvořák’s embankment to Modřany and back.
