In news that will come as a surprise to no one who frequents this website, Prague has been named among the top 10 cities in the world for expats.

According to the Expat City Ranking 2018, Prague ranks 8th among the top 72 expat cities in the world surveyed, and 2nd among European locales.

The results are based on data collected by InterNations for this year’s Expat Insider survey, released in September, which rated the Czech Republic the 10th best country overall for expats, and the 3rd best country for expats to work.

Data for individual cities was not released in the initial report, but revealed yesterday in a press release spotlighting the Expat City Ranking 2018, which uses survey data collected from 18,000 respondents rating the 72 most popular cities for expats across the globe.

Cities were ranked by a variety of factors including ease of relocation and getting settled, quality of urban living and urban work styles, and finance and housing.

While Prague came in 8th overall, it was 2nd among European destinations after what might be a surprise to some: Aachen in neighboring Germany, which slid in ahead of Prague at 7th on the list and was ranked as the best expat city for urban work life.

Prague, however, was named a top city overall for career expats. A total of 76% of Prague expats were satisfied with career opportunities, which rated the most of any city in the survey, compared to 55% overall.

Prague also ranked 3rd in urban work life, 5th in quality of living, and 7th in cost of living. The Czech capital also received high marks for its public transportation.

Asian cities dominated the top of the list, with Taipei leading the top expat cities for the second year in a row. Taiwan’s capital scored top 5 rankings in each of the main categories, and was also tapped as the most expat-friendly city in the world.

Singapore (high marks for safety), Manama (world’s top city for an expat to get settled in), Ho Chi Minh City (best cost of living ratings), and Bangkok (top ratings for housing and safety) rounded out the top 5.

These are the world’s top 10 cities for expats according to the Expat City Ranking 2018:

1. Taipei, Taiwan
2. Singapore
3. Manama, Bahrain
4. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
5. Bangkok, Thailand
6. Kuala Lumpor, Malaysia
7. Aachen, Germany
8. Prague, Czech Republic
9. Madrid, Spain
10. Muscat, Oman

What cities aren’t so hot for expats? Major European capitals like Rome, Paris and London rounded out the bottom 10 cities on the Expat City Ranking 2018.
