Prague's top 10 weekend events: Country tunes, barbecue, and rooftop yoga bliss

Prague celebrates July 4 all weekend long with American food and country tunes, while Latino sounds and cat art make for a diverse lineup of events.

Join spirited celebrations

Celebrate American dreams over four festive days starting July 4 at Manifesto Market’s American Week. Enjoy live bands, DJs, R&B, fireworks, and mini markets with American specialties. Savor BBQ and other American eats from Manifesto vendors. Join the festivities from July 4 to July 7, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

For the ninth time, from Thursday to Sunday, Náměstí Republiky will host Sabor Latino Praha, showcasing dishes from Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Peru. Enjoy live music, dancing, cocktails, and chili, piña colada, and mojito ice cream. Events include concerts, workshops, DJ parties, and a market with jewelry, talismans, and traditional clothing. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

peek into a palace

On July 5 and 6, the Liechtenstein Palace in Prague 1, originating from the mid-16th century and historically utilized by the Bohemian nobility, will be accessible to the public. Free guided tours are typically conducted in groups of 20 people, starting every 15 minutes. Known for its Baroque architecture, it served as the home of the Liechtenstein family. No prior registration is needed.

Enjoy film inside and out

Prague 6’s Letní kino u Keplera will show the recently released Perfect Days movie on July 5, made by German and Japanese filmmakers. In director Wim Wenders’ latest creation, protagonist Hirayama finds peace in his humble job cleaning public toilets. Actor Kōji Yakusho’s performance won Best Actor at Cannes.

It’s going to be warm this weekend, and the popular Sunset Cinema in Prague will let you unwind with a classic range of movies in the summer warmth. The Great Gatsby, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun: Maverick, and Mamma Mia! are all featured this weekend.

Americana or afrobeats?

Laid Back Country Picker, known for blending Led Zeppelin, Waylon Jennings, Stanley Brothers, David Bowie, and Motörhead influences, will perform at Café V lese in Prague on July 7. Expect a high-energy country rock show and a post-concert fan meet. Local artist Janny Richter will open with a unique mix of country blues, Americana, and indie rock.

Soak up the sun and listen to the best Afrobeat at this weekend’s July 7 Afro Rave On The Beach event. Held at Žluté lázně in Prague 4, the feel-good event features drinks, beach volleyball, football, and sunbathing spots.

Paws for cat art

If you favor felines, consider attending a special cat-themed exhibition at Schwarzenberg Palace this weekend. Named The Good Cat and the Treacherous One, this display shows paintings and sketches of cats from the 16th to 18th century. It features works from renowned artists like Václav Hollar and Jacob Jordaens.

Appreciate a piano premiere

A special concert event in support of Ukraine at Municipal House on July 5 will feature the world premiere of a composition by Ukrainian composer Iryna Aleksiychuk; the piece will later debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In addition, international competition winner Anna Dmytrenko will perform Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2.

bliss out on a rooftop

Finish off your weekend with a morning yoga experience under the auspices of the Iyengar Yoga Institute Prague, which takes place on July 7. This morning yoga class on the 11th floor of the Radost Rooftop aims to calm the mind, focusing on awakening the body, rousing energy, and synchronizing conscious movement and breath. Accompanied by meditation, ambient music, and a view of the awakening city.
