Prague to open five new COVID-19 testing points, including one in Wenceslas Square

The City of Prague plans to open five new COVID-19 testing points this month in an effort to provide residents and visitors with sufficient options to get tested and increase the daily number of tests the city can conduct, Deputy Mayor Petr Hlubuček has announced.

“We want to increase the amount of testing for Praguers and the number of sampling points in Prague,” Hlubuček told local reporters.

“Places in five city districts have already been selected.”

The first of those COVID-19 testing points will open in Wenceslas Square from August 14, and is primarily intended to serve tourists in the city center.

The central testing facility will be located at Wenceslas Square 29, and be operated by the GHC Genetics laboratory. Visitors who purchase a PCR test themselves should have results in two hours, according to Hlubuček.

“Should the situation worsen further, it is also possible to reintroduce drapes in public enclosures,” Hlubuček said.

Currently, masks are required on the Prague metro, along with health faclilities.

There are currently ten COVID-19 testing points in Prague, including those at the Central Military Hospital, Bulovka Hospital, Faculty Hospital in Královské Vinohrady, Veleslavín Chateau, Prosek Polyclinic, and Prevedig in Prague 8.

The new testing facilities will increase that total by 50%. Additional locations were not revealed, though one should be opened by the municipality of Prague 9.
