Ranging in size from an entire small tree to a short bundle of twigs, the ribbon-bedecked whips used to celebrate Easter in the Czech Republic are the ultimate symbol of the holiday in the Czech lands.
Czech men weren’t the only ones to put the braided-willow icons to use on Monday; the Prague Zoo gave them to its four-legged inhabitants and, naturally, cuteness ensued.
“Most pleased with today’s Easter were young [elephants] Max and Rudy. Rudy took to the huge pomlázky immediately…the gorillas [enjoyed] the leaves and twigs. Every family was trying to capture the largest piece…and feast on it.”
As you can see from the photos, the elephants were having a particularly good time, joined by ravens, gorillas, and lemurs. The polar bears were also given special decorative Easter “egg” from zookeepers.
