A couple years ago, we put out our Best Sushi In Prague Poll which named the top sushi restaurants in Prague as rated by Expats.cz users. See the winning sushi restaurants here

We know from the response to that poll (over 600 votes) just how passionate expats and Czechs alike are about their sushi.

Ever since then, the Japanese culinary scene in Prague is on a major roll, with the obsession for cuisine from the land of the rising sun extending to a pop-up devoted to wagashi, the art of Japanese sweets, and a café specializing in Japanese-style coffee (see below).

Find our previous coverage on Prague’s sushi houses here. Below, a quick run-down of some of the new generation of sushi bars in Prague—just in time for the opening tomorrow of a Bio Oko retrospective of director Hajao Mijazaki, spanning seven of his most celebrated films including Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.

Sushi Maru

The newly opened Sushi Maru on Wenceslas Square is attached to the Merchant’s Crown Hotel. It encompasses a menu of sushi and negiri rolls alongside hibachi fried rice and noodle dishes. Earning raves so far for its yakisoba and affordable prices. sushimaru.cz

Haru

The menu at this newly opened Letná Japanese joint (which has been under new management since 2016) starts with a bang (sake avocado salad, gyoza Japanese dumplings) and gets even bigger: massive sushi sets served on sushi boats and bridges. www.haru-sushi.cz

Momoichi Coffetearia

No sushi here, just Japanese tea and coffee culture at its finest—consider us addicted to the velvety Obscura coffee with milk. The tea theme carries over to the menu of light bites; try a matcha croissant or pancakes. Hosts regular screenings of Japanese film and tasting events. www.momoichi.cz
