As if the heavy storms that pelted Central Bohemia with hail earlier this week weren’t bad enough, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) has issued a severe storm warning for most of the Czech Republic on Friday afternoon and evening.

“Very strong thunderstorms” are expected from around 15:00 Friday afternoon throughout most of the country.

The CHMI’s severe storm warning is in effect for Prague and Central Bohemia, South Bohemia, Plzeň, South Moravia, Pardubice, Vysočina, Hradec Králové, and Karlovy Vary.

As with the inclement weather earlier this week, heavy precipitation including hail is expected, along with strong winds with gusts of up to 72 kilometers per hour.

The warning is in effect until midnight tonight, though isolated thunderstorms are expected through the weekend.

Despite the storms, temperatures are still expected to rise into the high 20s over the weekend before cooling off into the teens next week.
