“SILKWORM”
From the Creator´s of “Blow This Popsicle Stand” The Black Hand Theatre Returns to Prague this Spring

PROFILE
Touring this summer in Canada, Czech Republic and Germany, The Black Hand Theatre Collective is proud to be returning to the Prague Fringe. From the collective that brought you Blow This Popsicle Stand (proclaimed “utterly brilliant” by The Prague Post) comes a tale of colliding worlds and of what happens when rampant industrial expansion meets rural mysticism. In a village where nightly bomb raids have become the status quo, a young woman walks to church with only a stool and a bag of poppy seeds. Exploring the disruption of the day-to-day routine of traditional life by an unnamed enemy, Silkworm examines the journey of one girl as she discovers the invisible rotting underbelly of the quiet life she leads, and prepares to struggle against what generations of villagers have deemed best to leave unchallenged.

REVIEWS Of Black Hand’s Last Production:

Review by Steffen Silvis, for The Prague Post
“…The young Canadian troupe Black Hand Theatre has created this sweet, amusing little live action cartoon …The humor is perfectly light, but there’s a surprising depth to the piece, with an ending that blazes with hope and redemption. Smartly directed by playwright Stephanie Demas…”

“A Sheer Delight!” Alan Stratton, Canadian Playwright, Adjudicator.

Review by Prague TV: “Blow This Popsicle Stand is a completely ridiculous concept and a completely delightful show. At times a (very) tongue-in-cheek Waiting for Godot, at times a psychological power struggle, The brilliantly witty text by Stephanie Demas (who also directed) dances lightly between existential questioning and psychological games – with frequent outrageously funny reminders that we are, after all, talking about popsicles here. The final twist of the play became apparent and the change in tone – and temperature – was utterly brilliant. A wonderfully refreshing show… “
