Slovenia puts Czech Republic back on safe countries lists, with the exception of Moravian-Silesian region

A press release issued by the Czech Ministry of foreign affairs yesterday stated that the Slovenian government has included the Czech Republic back on its list of safe countries, with the exception of the Moravian-Silesian region.

The Slovenian cabinet’s decision takes effect from Tuesday, July 7, and means that neither a negative COVID-19 test will nor a 14-day quarantine will be required for entry into the country.

“I welcome the decision of my Slovenian colleagues. We managed to point out that growing numbers are a matter of local focus in the Czech Republic. At the same time, I ask Czech citizens traveling to Slovenia on holiday to respect the measures of the Slovenian authorities,” said Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček.

While the majority of Czechs can again freely enter Slovenian territory, restrictive measures will be applied to persons arriving from the Moravian-Silesian Region, in the form of a 14-day quarantine.

“I ask Czech citizens traveling to Slovenia to respect the measures of the Slovenian authorities. Those who have resided in the Moravian-Silesian Region in the last 14 days are still perceived as risky and must undergo quarantine,” Petříček tweeted.

“The Slovenian side will continue to carry out border controls, we are waiting for further information on this process, but we assume that in addition to document control, an affidavit will be required,” the minister said.

Despite the favorable development in Slovenia, Czechs must still undergo a 14-day quarantine when traveling to Latvia and Estonia.

On July 3, Slovenia removed the Czech Republic from its list of safe countries saying that it required a mandatory 14-day quarantine for Czech residents coming to the country after July 4. France and Croatia were also removed from Slovenia’s list of safe countries following a rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
