Stand in solidarity with Beirut this Wednesday at Prague's Old Town Square

The Lebanese Club in the Czech Republic will hold a candlelight vigil this Wednesday for victims of the recent explosions in Beirut

On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, two large explosions rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut, leaving an estimated 220 dead, 7,000 injured, and 300,000 people without homes. The second explosion is considered one of the largest non-nuclear blasts in recorded history.

As Lebanon attempts to assess the damages in Beirut with the assistance of rescue teams and aid sent by countries around the world, including the Czech Republic, local communities have expressed solidarity with Lebanon in their own ways.

In Paris, the Eiffel Tower went black at midnight on the day of the explosions, and while Israel and Lebanon are technically at war, even the City Hall in Tel Aviv lit up in the colors of the Lebanese flag last week.

In Prague, the Lebanese Club in the Czech Republic (Libanonský Klub v ČR) invites residents to come to Old Town Square this Wednesday for a candlelight vigil to remember the victims of the explosions and stand in solidarity with Beirut.

Anyone who wishes to attend, not only members of the Lebanese Club, is invited to come.

“The Administrative Board of the Lebanese Club in the Czech Republic invites the club members, the Lebanese residing in the Czech Republic, and friends to take part in a stand of solidarity with our people in Beirut and Lebanon, lighting candles on the souls of the victims of the explosion and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured while presenting an honorable greeting to the medical, nursing and relief staff,” the Club writes on Facebook.

“We hope to see you there.”

The event will take place this Wednesday, August 12 from 19:00 in Prague’s Old Town Square.
