This summer, many of us residing in the Czech Republic are opting to explore or revisit our home country’s diverse destinations and attractions instead of traveling abroad.

With Czech Railways offering discounted ride passes from July 1 to August 31 (buy a weekly ticket valid for 7 consecutive days at 690 CZK or a two-week ticket, valid for 14 consecutive days at 990 CZK, there is no better time to explore the Czech lands.

Here are our top picks for summer vacations for every kind of travel personality.

The Family Getaway

Many Czech families head to lakes for their summer family vacations, but the whole family will love these luxury yurts and treehouses that let you bunk near the wild animals!

The Safari Park in Dvůr Králové offers a number of unique accommodations, including treehouses directly above the African animal enclosure. The treetop spots include hot tubs, free WiFi, and of course a view of giraffes and other animals.

The Adventurer

Located on the Czech-Austrian border, the Šumava lakes region offers adventurers the chance to enjoy hiking, swimming, and all that nature has to offer.

The Glamper

Not everyone wants to rough it by going backpacking and camping. Even without camping on the floor, there are still ways to enjoy all of the Czech Republic’s beautiful nature. In North Bohemia, try sleeping in a treehouse for a unique blend of nature and luxury.

Treehouse pod Ještědem, located in the forest by Ještěd Mountain near Liberec in North Bohemia, offers spacious accommodation for two, plus the option to add two beds to fit a family. Learn more about the treehouse here.

The Relaxing Getaway

There’s no better way to relax in the Czech Republic than at a spa. Spa culture in the Czech lands and central Europe can be traced back to medieval and perhaps even Roman times when health-seekers visited natural springs in search of cures for a number of ailments.

Nowadays, the country’s top resorts and spa hotels have reinvented spa services to cater to overworked, modern spa-goers seeking both relaxation and restorative treatments. But due to coronavirus, spas across the country have suffered and are offering special deals for relaxation seekers.

The History Buff

Olomouc is often overlooked as a tourist destination, but the Moravian gem has a lot of history on offer for visitors willing to make the trek.

The city has a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Holy Trinity Column, the largest group of Baroque statues within a single sculptural monument in Central Europe. The sculpture features 18 stone sculptures of saints as well as 6 busts of the apostles and 12 light-bearers.

As well as the column, the city has a unique astronomical clock, a fortress, and a rare collection of churches and fountains.

If you’re in the Olomouc region, take a quick trip to the romantic 14th century Bouzov Castle, one of the most visited castles in the country. In addition, there are a number of other historical sights in the region.

The Romantic Getaway

The Czech Republic offers so many romantic getaways for just you and your sweetheart. Take an extended weekend away at a Czech chateau to reconnect and spend quality time together.

Spa Hotel Vráž, a neo-Gothic style castle built in 1875, is located south of Prague and offers a variety of comprehensive spa treatments for guests. The building is surrounded by beautiful greenery and an English park and forest.

The Czech aristocratic Lobkowicz family lived in the castle each summer until 1926. You can use the 4,000 CZK spa voucher from the Czech government at this facility, too.

If you’re looking for something a little different, Liblice Chateau, by the Italian architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, also offers a unique opportunity for couples to reconnect for some time away. The neo-Renaissance style castle offers a wellness and spa with a number of treatments as well as a beautiful park around the chateau.
