The University of New York in Prague is hosting its sixth annual TEDxUNYP event this weekend. The event, the largest English-language TEDx in the Czech Republic brings over a dozen speakers from all over the world to present on the theme of "Evolution."

What exactly is a TEDx event and how does it differ from the TED Talks phenomenon? Forbes writes that the difference between TED and TEDx events is that "the former takes more of a global approach while the latter typically focuses on a local community that concentrates on local voices."

TEDx talks tend to feature inspiring speakers with interesting stories to tell; thinkers, innovators, and artists who give the audience the opportunity to learn things.

The TEDxUNYP events are no exception. The talks see a diverse group of expert speakers in communication, humanity, digital marketing, space, autism, technology, sports, anthropology, music, and dance descend on Prague to inform, educate, and entertain.

This year’s talks cover a wide range of topics, from the synergy of autism and art, through the depth of neuroscience, to perspectives on the connection between dance and sexuality.

“I am extremely proud of the topics and issues that will be covered this year at TEDxUNYP. This unique group of speakers – including scientists and CEOs, artists, and athletes – will stimulate wonder and inspiration, foster learning and curiosity, and provoke meaningful discussions. The mission of TEDx events will be fulfilled to the max,” said Mark Anderson, Marketing Director for the University of New York in Prague and TEDxUNYP Organizer and Licensee.

Some well-known names from the expat community will be in attendance including Maya Kvetny, Casting Director at Myrnyx Tyrnyx as well as leaders from the Czech business world, such as Lenka Helena Koenigsmark, Marketing Director for MATTEL Czech Republic.

Entrepreneurs slated to speak include Farokh Shahabi co-founder and CEO of Formaloo, Petr Kovařík, CVO, Pražská čokoláda Steiner & Kovarik, and Sara Polak, Founder of Paioneers lab, Paralelní Polis.

Matej Hosek, Student and Artist at Maappi, and Jakub Dvořák, Choreographer & Creative Director, Fragment Productions are just two of the creatives who represent the arts and culture side of the event, and some participants including Paula Arendášová UNYP Alumna and Certified Twerk Technician, defy classification.

While talks are the highlight of TEDxUNYP 2022, attendees will also have the opportunity to network and participate in activities.

Sotiris Foutsis, General Manager for the University of New York in Prague, says that TED talks have been stimulating discussion in UNYP classrooms for many years and that presentations help generate educational content for current and future students in addition to communities around the world.

“Critical thinking is more important than ever. Nurturing an environment where students can safely think and express their ideas is one of the cornerstones of the University of New York in Prague,” he added.

More detailed information about the speakers can be found at www.tedxunyp.cz. The talks take place on Sept. 24. Tickets include three sessions with live speakers, lunch, and interactive activities, and a goodie bag.
