Visit Christmas craft and handmade markets

Over 130 artisans and craftsmen from various Czech regions will take part in a holiday market at Výstaviště on Dec. 2 and 3. Visitors can find traditional and contemporary crafts, pottery, and refreshments plus tasty food representing Czech and international cuisine. If you got into a shopping mood, check out the Art Market prostor39 on Dec. 2, which offers original fashion, jewelry, and other handmade creations. 

Immerse yourself in a unique cinematic experience

On Dec. 2 and 3 at DOX, ART*VR: V F C offers a feature-length bio-feedback enhanced cinema experience (with English subtitles). It stars Inuk singer Elisapie Isaac in the role of a neuroscience researcher who develops melophobia (fear of music) and seeks refuge. Viewers wear an EEG headset and bone-conduction headphones to receive a customized soundtrack based on their cognitive state.

Celebrate St. Nicholas, or visit an art gallery for free

A family-oriented St. Nicholas Brunch & Beats on Dec. 4 at Manifesto Anděl will have holiday activities for kids, such as meeting St. Nicholas and cookie decorating, followed by music. Reservations are required and come with complimentary drinks. 

Hear Pink Floyd, The Tiger Lilies, or Ukrainian rock

Legendary band Pink Floyd may no longer exist, but their songs live on, and The Machine, a New York-based quartet, will perform their tunes on Dec. 1 at the Congress Center Prague accompanied by the Czech Live Symphony Orchestra. For a taste of cabaret and Prague in the 1990s, catch The Tiger Lillies & Orchestra Berg in the show Bohemian Nights on Dec. 2 at Divadlo Archa. One of the biggest Ukrainian rock bands, Okean Elzy will perform at the Fortuna Sports Hall on Dec. 2 as part of their Help for Ukraine tour. 

Have a bite-size taste of Japan

If you are curious to taste Japanese sandwiches, the Japanese Sandwich Festival at Café Sofa on Dec. 2 offers sweet and savory treats. Try the Tonkatsu Beef, Tempura Corn, Menchi Katsu, Chicken Karaage, Sweet Tamagoyaki, Fruit Salad Sandwich, or a selection in the original bento box from the renowned Studio Ghibli. 

Watch contemporary Italian movies

Until Dec. 6, MittelCinemaFest, a festival of contemporary Italian cinema, brings a selection of Italian films released in 2023 to Kino Lucerna. The films include debuts that were presented in September at the Venice Festival, as well as features dedicated to important Italian art figures, such as Borromini and Bernini - The Challenge for Perfection and The Shadow of Caravaggio. 

See a dark Scandinavian comedy on stage

Danish screenwriter and film director Anders Thomas Jensen’s Adam's Apples will be at Švandovo divadlo na Smíchově on Dec. 2 (with English subtitles). The plot of this dark Nordic comedy revolves around whether a priest will re-educate a neo-Nazi or a neo-Nazi will re-educate a priest, as well as other existential questions. 

Delve into Prague’s American history

Open House’s American Love Stories English-language walking tour on Dec. 3 explores the captivating stories of Americans with strong connections to Prague. It focuses on the intersections between the American and Czech worlds, and the romantic relationships that shaped the destinies of influential figures like Marcia Davenport, Madeleine Albright, Meda Mládková, Charlotte Garrigue Masaryk, and Shirley Temple Black. 

Watch American or Polish films

Until Dec. 2, the Bardzo Fajny Festival at Bio Oko offers a selection of acclaimed Polish films (with English subtitles), all of them released in 2022 and 2023. Between Dec. 1 and 3, explore U.S. filmmaking in the 1990s through the film screenings titled American Winter, done by Kino Kavalírka in cooperation with the American Center and the U.S. Embassy, and featuring titles like Toy Story, Before Sunrise, Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me, and Thelma & Louise.

Admire and try on unique watches

The Micro Praha Festival is a shopping event and a showcase of independent watchmakers on Dec. 2 and 3 at Hotel Kings Court Prague showcasing 37 micro watch brands from 14 countries. Attendees can try on watches, make purchases, and place special orders, making it a unique opportunity for watch enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
