The Guardian rates Prague’s Holešovice as one of Europe’s 10 coolest neighborhoods

A list of trendy neighborhoods wouldn’t be complete without a representative from Prague, and burgeoning Prague 7 district Holešovice is the city’s latest district to make an international list of cool ‘hoods.

Now, Holešovice has become the latest Prague borough cited as an alternative to the city’s more densely-packed tourist areas.

“Its impressive resurgence over the past decade or so has been largely thanks to creative and commercial entrepreneurs taking advantage of low rents and empty spaces – apartment blocks, factories – to create a vibrant infrastructure of galleries, shops, cafes, clubs and bars.”

“Although not as postcard-pretty as Stare Mesto (the old town) or Mala Strana over the river, Holešovice’s blend of industrial buildings, 19th- and early 20th-century tenements (with some lovely art nouveau blocks) and occasional communist behemoths makes for interesting meanders, and there are cultural treats aplenty too.”

Some of the venues created by those entrepreneurs across the past decade include trendy art studio DOX, fashion market hangout Vnitroblok, and Bitcoin-friendly cafe Paralelní Polis, among many others.

Sullivan cites Cafe Letka, Bistro 8, and Sasazu as some of the Holešovice’s culinary highlights, but we can add a couple of our own picks: popular sushi sandwich takeaway Onigirazu, which recently made the news for its stance on avocados, and SoCal-themed Cali Brothers, which occupies the former site of Bohemia Bagel.

Accommodation options cited in The Guardian include ever-popular backpacker hostel Sir Toby’s, along with a Prague branch of Mama Shelter, located at the refurbished site of the iconic communist-era Parkhotel.

Holešovice also borders two of Prague’s most popular parks: the expansive Stromovka, which has recently undergone some extensive restorations, and hilltop Letná, whose ever-popular beer garden is a must for both locals and tourists alike, and boasts some of the most impressive views of the city.
