FESTIVALS

Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště, July 25–August 2
While lovers of hot springs, colonnade wafers, and celebs head to Karlovy Vary en masse, those with a passion for film history and criticism travel the opposite way to Moravia, where this unique fest aims to create a new generation of film scholars. WIN: 2 x accreditation for the festival here.

Aerodrome Festival, July 8
Metallica is the headliner of this month’s Aerodrome Festival at Holešovice. Buy your tickets online to participate in helping compile this unique Metallica by Request playlist to be played in Prague!

Summer at Jungmann Square in Prague, July 10–August 14
For the second time in a row, Era Svět will transform Jungmann Square in Prague into a summer open-air festival area. Every Thursday, regardless of the weather you can come and listen to various artists such as Iva Bittová (June 10), PRAGO UNION (June 17) or The Tap Tap (August 14) for FREE.

Colours of Ostrava, July 17–20
To me, the line-up at Colours of Ostrava seems richer and richer every year. Robert Plant, Bastille, or John Buttler Trio are my picks for this year. I also highly recommend taking a guided tour through the industrial area and then visiting the First Republic restaurant Pod Věží.

Horňácko festivities, July 18–20
This long trip from Prague is definitely worth it. Located in South Moravia, Horňácko is a region where the traditional is still alive. This annual folklore festival gives you opportunity to experience raw folklore – dances, regional costumes, and people playing instruments everywhere regardless of the weather. A shortage of slivovice is never on the program!

Benátská!, July 24–27
The festival may have lost some of its magic after moving to a new location 2 years ago. On the bright side, you no longer have to worry too much about muddy feet or violation of personal space. Now relocated to Vesec by Liberec, where the world skiing championship 2009 took place, the main star of the line-up is HIM.

MUSIC

Joss Stone, July 23
The grown-up queen of soul deserves a venue like Lucerna Grand Hall. While still working on her 7th studio album in 2012, Stone released The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 which was partly recorded in the Czech Republic (proud)WIN 2×2 tickets to go here. 

Vladimir 518, July 5
Vladimir 518 is one of the most famous and longest-established rappers in the country. He is not only into music, but also street art and comics. He founded the label Big Boss, which has produced albums for DJ Mike Traffic and others who will perform on July 5 at Žluté lázně.

United Choirs of Prague Proms, July 19
A choir composed of 300 voices is a monsterchoir having a monsterconcert on July 19 at the Municipal House. Will your eardrums withstand the onslaught?

There is 630 tram stations in Prague and 245 of them are not accessible for handicapped people. However, the trend of accessible Prague public transportation is rising, as the reopened Národní třída metro station proves. Mystic Skate Cup, July 4–6
