Summer will finally come to the Czech Republic this week according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) which says that tropical temperatures will likely be accompanied by torrential rain, wind, and hail.

Extreme highs will occur early this week throughout the country with peak temps and near-tropical conditions taking place early in the week.

According to the CHMI, Monday will see temperatures with a high of 25°C to 29°C. Tuesday the mercury will ratchet up to tropical numbers with maximum temps ranging from 30 to 34°C.

Tuesday and Wednesday evenings should bring severe thunderstorms and gusts of wind and rain.

Temperatures will gradually lessen throughout the week though maintaining steamy daily temperatures of 24°C to 28°C (Wednesday), 23°C to 27°C (Thursday), and 24°C to 28°C (Friday).

The weekend should be clear to partly cloudy and may bring showers or thunderstorms with possible daily highs reaching 31°C.

Prague is currently prepared for the heatwave; the Petynka swimming pool in Prague 6 has reopened to the public after extensive renovations. Separately, the Prague 1 and 2 districts have introduced automated misting points to spray a fog of water.

Additional swimming spots can be found here.

In the light of the current coronavirus numbers, always check the venue’s website in advance for changes to opening hours or closures.

As of today attendance at indoor events is limited to 500 people; no updates have been given regarding open-air events
