On Saturday 28 August 2010 you can take a free ride around the world in Vysočany Park.  The sixth annual festival Colourful Nine – Etnofest is starting at 2.00 PM and presents the smells, flavours and melodies of four different continents. Experience dancers and musicians from neighbouring and far away countries; taste various cuisines or purchase original goods. For children there are plenty of competitions and workshops, while adults can enjoy several great concerts with Gipsy.cz as the evening headliners. Same as in past years the entry is free.

Hourly evening concerts are traditionally the biggest crowd-puller. This year´s headliner is GIPSY.CZ performing its Romano hip hop. Their explosive mixture of rap, gypsy music, funk, ethno and pop got even the audience of the Eurosong up on their feet and dancing. The next band CCTV ALL STARS combines musicians from the Czech Republic, America, Switzerland and GB, and different music styles; their explosive folk-rock ska reggae performance gets anybody dancing. The same energetic music style follows CHICO DÍAZ ORQUESTA SALSABORRR, a Dominican band with a colourful music variety of salsa, meringue, Latin pop and jazz.

Not only there is a stage program but it spreads all around the park area. About twenty nationalities present their national cream of the crop in Etnofest; anyone can visit Tibetan press, get a hairdo according to the African fashion, learn salsa and Chasidic dance basics or try drumming in Southern rhythms with one of our most significant percussionists, Miloš Vacík. All gourmands can appreciate cuisines from Angola, Bulgaria, China, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Georgia, Lebanon, Moldavia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ukraine or Vietnam. In exotic tents there are presentations of all the countries, their history and present and also get hand-made traditional objects that you cannot get elsewhere.

„Colourful Nine is organised the sixth year in a row in Vysočany Park and we are very glad that the festival became a weekend traditional program not only for the citizens of Prague 9. Similarly we are proud that there are foreigners and representatives of various ethic groups from all over the Czech Republic. Podviní Park becomes a real colourful part of the city,“ says Prague 9 councillor, Adam Vážanský.

Festival is much-favoured by the children; there is a competition “All around the world in one day” offering entertainment, knowledge quizzes and nice prizes. Children can spend a whole afternoon in youth centre of Prague 9 workshop or try out the leisure centre attractions. Those who are not afraid of heights, there is a possibility of trying out a ropes course with a special entry discount. Adults can taste the best rums from the Dominican Republic or follow the program on stage. During the afternoon there will be Indian, Roma or Ukraine dancing, Indonesian, Jewish or Vietnamese music; African fashion show or Angola show. The evening program finishes with a fire show performed by the Fantasmagoria group.

Band annotation:

GIPSY.CZ
Gypsy music band performing so called Romano hip hop (music style combining elements of rap, hip hop, traditional gypsy music and Balkan brass band) is the unique Czech interpreter that performed during the legendary festival in Glastonbury. Apart from a decent portion of healthy aggression Gipsy.cz production does not lack humour and irony. The band is inspired by American hip hop as well as Prague and its specific genius loci.

CCTV ALL STARS
International rock and blues jam band has been playing for over two years. CCTV Allstars produce elegantly elaborated and still strongly electrifying sound. Eddy Allen (UK), Tom Levecchia (USA), Štěpán Janoušek (CZ), Omar Rojas and Ulf Gjerdingen (SW) mix ska, reggae, hip hop and blues-rock in an improvised jam style that provokes dancing. So far the band published a single album called Just a World.

CHICO DÍAZ ORQUESTA SALSABORRR

The band was founded in 1998 by Puerto Rico singer, musician and composer, Chico Diaz, and belongs to the most experienced and reputable bands in the field of salsa. They also perform meringue, cumbia, bachata, son, reggae ton, Latin pop or Latin jazz and others. Their energy and dynamic rhythms are dangerously alluring and the band can certainly warm up the audience.
