A light-hearted video poking fun at Czech Post has gone viral, garnering widespread attention within a day of its release. The clip, pretending to portray an advert for the state postal carrier, humorously highlights common frustrations with the company, such as delays, miscommunication, and closed branches.
The video opens with the video creator, Vladimír Špička, describing it as "a sincere advertisement for Czech Post," featuring a mock post office and satirical scenarios. "I hope the video will unite the nation," he quips in the introduction.
“We know that the best thing about your package is waiting for it. That is why, just like wine, we let it rest and mature,” the narrator, posing as a Czech Post employee, says.
The video then makes fun of a common issue: being at home while waiting for a package, but receiving a slip of paper telling you to pick it up at the local office regardless.
“Every parcel will receive the care it deserves,” the video continues. And since we all know that going to Czech Post branches is a nuisance, we've closed all of them!’” the narrator exclaims, referring to the ailing postal carrier’s decision to close hundreds of branches in 2023 in a bid to avoid bankruptcy. Not all is lost, though, as the Czech Post worker gleefully offers lottery tickets to buy.
The video mocks postal inefficiencies with services like "Package to Nowhere" and "Guaranteed Possibility of Delivery."
The video also encourages viewers to adopt their own carrier pigeons, just in case services from Czech Post—somehow—let you down. If faced with inconveniences, video viewers can also visit the Mrzíkovna (“We are so sorry”) branch—a fun play on words on the Balíkovna postal service.
The video ends with a slogan: “Czech Post. If you do not wait, you are not Czech.”
Czech Post took the video in stride, sharing it on their social media with a lighthearted response, acknowledging the humor behind the criticism.
"The video contains a number of clichés and prejudices that persist in society towards Czech Post and Balíkovna. On the other hand, it’s humorous and decent. We know how to make fun of ourselves; it's part of life," he said. On top of closed branches, repeated lay-offs and shortened opening times at Czech Post's headquarters on Jindřišská Street, combined with increasing prices, has led to increased dissatisfaction with the state carrier.
