Where to stay: According to Lonely Planet, “Though Istanbul is no longer the bargain travel destination it was in the past, it still offers good value for money”. Most visitors stay north or south of the Golden Horn. South, according to Time Out Istanbul, “has traditionally been the center for the city’s budget and mid-range accommodations” (here you’ll find the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, and stunning views). To the north, offerings are in the mid to high range. The area of Beyoglu is often recommended.
