An exciting month of events await! As summer gets under way, there is a slew of great bands and DJ’s passing through the city. British Synth pop, Electronic demi-gods and legendary guitarists not to mention performance and dance festivals all taking place in the month of May!  

Music 
1 – Emperor X: Lo-fi bedroom sounds from the alliterative MC/producer who can be heard name-checking Battlestar Galactica in his songs. The well-traveled musician uses dynamic microphones during his performance and has been known to bury physical copies of his music to protest the current problems with diminishing physical music production.

7 – Mark Knopfler: The legendary guitarist of Dire Straits fame plays a solo show. Doors open at 20.00! 

7-8: Magnetic Festival: A European electronic dance music experience for the new generation. Steve Aoki will be playing alongside a packed line-up of exciting names from the dance scene! 

9 – Sheila Jordan & Jay Clayton Band: Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Jordan began singing almost before she could walk! A true jazz child with many years of experience behind her.  

9-10 – FOK – Spanish Symphony: The Prague Symphonic Orchestra, led by Aleksandar Marković performs over two nights in the beautiful Smetana Hall setting.

10 – P!nk: The exciting and innovative American singer-songwriter: Pink! plays Prague’s O2 Arena as part of her “The Truth About Love Tour”. 

13 – Redman (US): Czech Hip Hop connoisseurs Boombox present an evening of unadulterated hip hop with the one and only Funk Doctor- Redman! Raw lyrics on the pursuit of vices from the Brick City representative!  Redman – Whateva Man – http://youtu.be/tdx6Z7qujIA     

14 – Major Lazer: American superstar DJ/producer, label head, and Blackberry poster boy Diplo returns to Prague, this time under the militant dance-hall moniker Major Lazer. Dippers always puts on a good show, be sure to get tickets early for this one!     

15 – Caravan Palace: Electro swing fused with Gypsy Jazz taking place at Roxy. The French band will no doubt perform tracks from their 2012 studio album, Panic.

16 – Efterklang: The 3 piece Danish experimental indie rock band have four successful albums under their belt. The 3 childhood friends create and perform a unique sound combing synth pop and post-rock. 

16 – The XX: The extremely popular British intellectual pop outfit performs a rare show at Prague’s Lucerna Music Hall. Expect trademark moody lyrics on love and life from some of the scene’s most exciting musicians. A must-see show!

21 – Apparat: Famous Berlin dubstep producer brings a set of bumps, bass and wobbles to Prague’s Palác Akropolis. Expect Apparat’s own unique brand of dubstep!

29 – Mudhoney: US grunge legends return to Prague after four years! What better way to celebrate 25 years of releasing music and touring? Head to Lucerna Music Bar for a slice of the action!  

Cultural Events 

1 – Letná block party: Františka Křížka street becomes the location for the Letná Block party! Fully equipped with a paddling pool, music & dance-floor, flea market, and plenty of refreshments.     

11 – Expats.cz International Market: For the 5th year running, we are organizing a community event bringing together buyers and sellers from all over the large international community in Prague. Come to buy or sell your used items, or sample some tasty food from our expanded selection of restaurants & food merchants.

11 – 12.5. – Volkswagen Marathon Weekend: Running in the Czech Republic has continued to grow ever more popular. Come enjoy the atmosphere and support the runners at the Marathon Weekend!

12 – 2.6. – Prague Spring: Enjoy appearances from foreign conductors at the 68th Prague Spring International Music Festival! See the complete program here.

16.5. – 1.6. – Czech Beer Festival: Come to this huge celebration of beer & taste more than 70 brands of Czech brews, always in top quality in glass pitchers.

24-26: Prague Food Festival 2013: Take this unique opportunity to see Czech Republic’s top chefs in action!   

25.5. TEDx Prague: popular TEDx gathering takes place on May 25. Among other speakers, you can hear from René Kujan (ultrarunner), Krištof Kintera (conceptual artist), Zoltán Dani (former Serbian soldier during the Kosovo War, baker) and Miroslava Slívová (former prostitute, coach of personal development).

27-4.7: Tanec Praha: The 25th edition of the International Festival of Contemporary Dance and Movement Theatre. Check the website and be a part of the festival’s jubilee celebrations!
