JOB DESCRIPTION
Teaching responsibilities:

Teaching two 45-minute classes per day, one group of 15 students in Level 5, and one group of 15 students in Level 6. The Level 5 course covers prehistory to the fall of Rome, Level 6 continues up to the present time. The courses are designed to present units of 3-5 lessons that introduce facts and concepts in an incremental fashion, using slides. After the teacher explains the content of each slide, students take “guided notes,” copying the information designated for memorization or recall (filling in the text).  When the slide introduces more advanced concepts, the teacher guides students through their reasoning necessary for understanding these concepts, utilizing true/false questions on the next slide. At the end of the class, students work independently on the worksheet, practicing the material from the lesson. After 3-5 lessons, students spend 1-2 lessons on review, followed by a test.  Following the test, an Exploration Lesson is introduced, focusing on an individual or group project related to the content of the completed unit.

Reviewing responsibilities:

  • Level 5 and Level 6 courses: Review the content of the slides, worksheets, and guided notes for the Level 5 and Level 6 courses, and bring any potential issues (eliminating grammatical and factual errors) to the course's author. Prepare materials for the review and Exploration lessons. The Level 5 course covers history and relevant geography from prehistory to the fall of Rome, while the Level 6 course covers the remainder of the timeline.

  • Level 7 course and the scope and sequence of the overall curriculum: Review and discuss the design and content of the Level 7 Course (Ancient History) with its author, review the scope and sequence material, and participate in ad hoc meetings with the entire team contributing to the development of the content.

Teaching, lesson preparation, and authoring responsibilities are conducted using the proprietary software platform SPORK, which is utilized by all students and teachers at BASIS. www.spork.tech
