  • Feb. 28|On the last Tuesday of every month through June, the Karel Komárek Family Foundation hosts a concert in support of the Piano for Schools collection.
  • Feb. 28|On this day in 1883, Prague's Old Town Square was illuminated with electricity for the very first time thanks to František Křižík, who lit up Old Town Square with his own arc lamps.
  • March 2|Classical Czech Composer Bedřich Smetana was born on this day in 1824. Smetana is often considered the father of Czech music.
  • March 2|Vršovice, now located in the Prague 10 district, was officially elevated to town status on this date in 1902. It became part of Prague 20 years later.
  • March 4|The farmers market at Kulaťák in Prague's Dejvice neighborhood opens for the 2023 season. Markets will be open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through the fall.
  • March 4|The Czech Republic will celebrate its first-ever Hockey Day with NHL-sponsored activities at the Karviná Sport Complex.
  • All March|March is the month of libraries, with locations throughout the country organizing special events.

📺 WHAT TO STREAM THIS WEEK

"BANGER.", a Czech musical drama about a young drug dealer who aspires to become a rapper, premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, March 1.

Directed by Adam Sedlák and starring Adam Mišík, the movie premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival last year and has been nominated for eight Czech Lion awards including Best Picture.
