Art exhibits from young sculptors will decorate Prague's Wenceslas Square this month

Prague, Sept 10 (CTK) – Young sculptors’ works will decorate Prague’s central Wenceslas Square and the vestibules of the adjacent palaces for four weeks as of today within the VaclavART annual event in support of beginner artists organised by the Prague New Town Association.

The association’s aim is to raise the public’s interest in the development and fate of the Wenceslas Square. It represents both citizens and businesses, banks, hotels, restaurants, historical palaces and local residents seated in the square and its surroundings.

The event is taking place for the third time in a row as a chance for young artists to present their work and boost their artistic career.

A total of 26 sculptures and objects made by 12 young artists, who are students or graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts (AVU), have been installed in the square this time.

“A story, a vision, an idea taking a physical dimension is a miracle. The forms of expression develop. The new technologies and the conceptual art have enriched the sculptural art. However, a statue remains irreplaceable, because man’s passion for matter can never disappear,” Lukas Rittstein, the patron of the VaclavART display and head of the AVU sculpture department, said.

He said Wenceslas Square is an “arena of reality” – it quickly shows what artifacts are viable and capable of enriching the scene.

“For young sculptors, this immensely important experience is also an exceptional opportunity to introduce themselves to the broad public,” Rittstein added.
