In April, they also welcomed Maximilian, the second elephant born on location in the Zoo’s history and the first to have also been conceived at the Zoo.
Not to be outdone, however, Zoo director Miroslav Bobek announced over the weekend that the Zoo has seen another baby elephant come in to the world, when mother Tamara gave birth to a baby boy.
Tamara had been pregnant for 658 days, and while the birth was expected, the speed with which she handled the delivery was a surprise.
Over the weekend, the Zoo’s Facebook page has been filled with photos and videos of the newborn elephant, now just a few days old, who is said to be doing fine and drinking from his mother several times per hour.
If all goes well, the Zoo’s newest addition will be reintroduced to his older “brother” Max in the coming weeks. For now, the 80 kg newborn is too delicate for that kind of meeting.
You can come see both young elephants, as well as their adult counterparts, at Prague Zoo’s Elephant Valley.
