The American Ball Corporation has announced it will be building a second production plant in the Czech Republic and also plans to create a development center as part of an expansion into Europe and Middle East regions.

The group, the largest manufacturer of fully recyclable aluminum beverage packaging in the Czech Republic, will invest almost CZK 4.5 billion in the new plant, equipping it with the latest automated technology. As part of the expansion, a number of engineering jobs will be created but it isn't confirmed how many, with the company planning to start operations in the autumn of next year in the Plzeň area.

"We plan to install sophisticated automated equipment in the production line using state-of-the-art technology to minimize the environmental impact, in line with our current commitment to 100% renewable energy in our European plants," said Gerhard Mayer, Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA Vice President.

The investment is part of a broader corporate strategy to increase investment throughout the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). At the same time, the company began building a technology team that will further develop and improve the company's automated and semi-automated production lines.

"With the help of CzechInvest, we are establishing contacts with the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň and we plan to send new colleagues to gain experience in our plants within a worldwide network of branches," explains Radek Mádr, director of the Czech branch of Ball Corporation.

CzechInvest intensively supported the Czech branch of Ball Corporation not only in establishing closer cooperation with the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, at the end of last year it also mediated important meetings for the company's representatives with representatives of the city of Plzeň.

"We are pleased that another foreign investor is also adding development to the Czech Republic's production activities, and we will be happy to continue to help the company," says Veronika Zajícová, Director of the CzechInvest's Investment and Foreign Activities Division.

Ball Corporation produces aluminium packaging for beverages, personal care, and household products. It is also a provider of services for the US government, including in aerospace and other technology sectors.

In 2019, CzechInvest helped the company obtain an investment incentive to invest a total of 887.93 million crowns in newly installed technologies. At the time, its purpose was to improve processes, make efficient use of resources and capacities, and support sustainable development and the company's growth in the region.
