Nature Bear attacks, kills mushroom picker in Slovakia

A 55-year-old mushroom picker was killed by a bear near Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia, marking the second fatal bear attack in the country’s history. The incident occurred near the village of Hybe, where the man sustained severe injuries despite rescue efforts. The first fatal bear attack in Slovakia happened in 2021 in the same area. Emergency responders and a specialized intervention team were dispatched to the scene.

Sports Muchová reaches Beijing Open final

Czech tennis player Karolína Muchová advanced to the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing after defeating China's Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-4 today. The 28-year-old will face American Coco Gauff in Sunday’s final. Muchová, currently ranked 49th, has only won one of her previous five finals. Legal Czech Senate to decide on kratom regulations

Energy Krnov heating plant resumes operation after floods

Veolia Energie has restored operations at the Krnov heating plant, which was shut down due to flooding from the Opava River on September 14. The company’s crisis management team expects to stabilize heat and hot water supply for the entire city of over 22,000 residents by early next week, pending repairs to 53 remaining heat exchanger stations. International Ten Czechs and their families depart Lebanon

Floods Belgium to send aid to flood-hit Czechia, Poland

Belgium will send over 350 dryers and dehumidifiers worth €156,000 (about CZK 4 million) to Czechia and Poland, recently hit by severe floods, the Belgian Foreign Ministry has announced. Health Breast cancer kills 1,800 women in Czechia yearly

Weather September floods set new Czech rainfall record

Mid-September floods broke a 127-year-old Czech record for daily rainfall when 386 mm fell in Loučná nad Desnou, North Moravia on Sept. 14, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute reported. The previous record was 345.1 mm in 1897. Heavy rain over several days led to streams overflowing, causing damage worth billions of crowns. The floods resulted in five confirmed deaths, with some people still missing. The Olomouc and Moravia-Silesia regions were among the hardest hit.
