We’ve written in the past about Prague being one of the world’s best cities for vegetarian restaurants, according to data from popular vegan and vegetarian website Happycow.net.

That perhaps shouldn’t be surprising, given the Czech capital’s relatively low population for a major European city, and its high density of veggie-friendly chains like Loving Hut and Beas, along with many other options.

But would you believe that the Czech Republic as a whole ranks among the most vegetarian-friendly countries in Europe?

Perhaps surprisingly, the Czech Republic ranks as the #3 most veggie-friendly country in Europe, with 13.7 vegetarian restaurants per 1 million inhabitants. Only Iceland and Austria rank higher.

The least veggie-friendly countries in Europe include Albania, Belarus, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with less than 0.5 vegetarian restaurants per million inhabitants each.

Here’s the full breakdown of data, by vegetarian restaurants per 1 million inhabitants:

  • Iceland 24.8
  • Austria 13.8
  • Czech Republic 13.7
  • Andorra 12.6
  • Cyprus 11.8
  • Malta 11.8

Maybe Czech women prefer vegetables to men.
