There were 149 new COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic yesterday, according to data published by the Czech Health Ministry this morning.

The number represents the lowest daily increase since last Thursday, when 93 cases were recorded. Through the weekend, the Czech Republic reported two-month highs in the numbers of daily COVID-19 cases, but the vast majority of these were localized to an outbreak in the Karviná district in Moravia.

Yesterday marked the end of blanket testing on around 3,400 employees of the OKD mines in Karviná; about 17% of these employees have tested positive for COVID-19, though that number could rise as not all samples have been processed yet.

In Prague and much of the rest of the Czech Republic, the number of new COVID-19 cases remains stable. There have been just 4.38 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in Prague over the past seven days, and only 3 new cases yesterday.

In Karviná, that rate is now over 270 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents.

There have now been a total of 11,960 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the epidemic in mid-March.

The country has reported a total of 7,776 recoveries and 349 COVID-19-related deaths in that span. Currently, there are 3,835 known active COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic.

In Prague, residents said a symbolic farewell to the end of the coronavirus crisis last night at a mass dinner celebration on Charles Bridge that featured a half-kilometer long table and seating for 2,000.

There are some exceptions, which include the Prague metro and all areas in Karviná and surrounding regions. See here for our full roundup of updates to coronavirus measures that have taken effect from July 1.

Also from today, restaurants and public in most regions of the country (except for Karviná and surrounding areas) will be able to open from after 23:00.

From today, the Czech Republic has added eight non-EU countries to its list of safe travel destinations; restriction-free travel is now possible between the Czech Republic and Serbia and Montenegro, and Czech residents may travel without restriction from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Once these countries introduce a reciprocal measure, all travel between these countries will be possible without restriction.

The Czech Republic also added the United Kingdom to its list of safe travel destinations yesterday, permitting restriction-free travel between the two countries.

Also yesterday, Prague Marathon officially cancelled its 2020 runs in the Czech capital, originally postponed until the autumn.

From today, Czech residents can apply for a 4,000-crown  voucher to be used in spas throughout the country under a program to support domestic tourism.
