Czech Republic coronavirus updates, May 28: 36 new cases, no deaths for second straight day

There were no COVID-19-related deaths reported in the Czech Republic for the second straight day on Wednesday, according to the latest figures provided by the Czech Health Ministry early this morning.

These past days would mark just the third and fourth days without a COVID-19 death since March 22 if those numbers hold; the death count may be updated retroactively, however.

The Czech Republic has now reported a total of 9,086 cases since the beginning of the outbreak in mid-March.

That figure includes a total of 317 COVID-19-related deaths and 6,370 confirmed recoveries, which is now the majority of total confirmed cases.

Currently, there are 2,400 known active COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic.

With a total of 2,059 cases, Prague remains the Czech region most afflicted by COVID-19; however, more than two-thirds of those cases have now recovered, according to the Health Ministry. The capital has also reported 94 COVID-19-related deaths, the most of any region.

The vast majority of current COVID-19 cases are not considered serious, with only 154 people suffering from COVID-19 now hospitalized in the Czech Republic; 18 of those are considered to be in serious condition.

Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS) director Ladislav Dušek told journalists yesterday that he no longer considers the overall COVID-19 statistics in the Czech Republic completely relevant, and that it makes more sense to focus on localized outbreaks.
