Czech Republic reports 3,589 coronavirus cases as daily rise slows down

Prague, April 2 (CTK) – The daily rise in the number of the confirmed novel coronavirus cases slowed down in the Czech Republic on Wednesday when 281 were registered, their number totalling 3,604, and the COVID-19 death toll rose to 40, according to the data from the Health Ministry’s website.

The highest COVID-19 incidence is still in the capital of Prague, more than one quarter of the total numbers.

So far, 40 patients with COVID-19 have died and 61 have recovered in the country.

On Wednesday, the rise in the confirmed coronavirus cases slowed down as there were 281 new ones as against 307 on Tuesday. However, the number of the tests also slightly fell from the so far highest of 6,206 on Tuesday to 5,973 on Wednesday.

The total number of tests performed has reached 60,990, including the repeated ones in one person.

Prague now has 943 cases and 71 cases per 100,000 population, followed by the Olomouc Region with 49 cases per 100,000. Due to a large number of the infected, over 20 municipalities in the Litovel and Unicov areas in the Olomouc Region, central Moravia, were totally sealed off until Monday.

According to Wednesday’s data, 342 COVID-19 patients were staying in hospitals, including 72 with a severe course of the illness. One patient is connected to the ECMO machine for blood oxygenation on Tuesday. Czech hospitals have 72 of them at their disposal.

Roughly one-quarter of those hospitalised have been cured or released to home care.
