Next week sees the grand opening of the new Chodov Centrum, a 61,000 m2 expansion of the already existing Prague mall which adds over 150 new shops to make it the largest shopping behemoth in the country, with a total of 300 outlets.
With the opening of the expanded shopping emporium on Wednesday, October 11 comes the debut of another new facility sure to delight fans of film: the country’s first Megaplex, boasting 18 new rooms with a total of 2,629 seats.
Three large halls will also be equipped with surround sound Dolby Atmos technology which can handle up to 128 separately controlled speakers. Laser projectors will transfer images onto the big screen for enhanced viewing quality.
The 4DX hall features special effects including water, wind, lightning, snow and, yes, even smell.
A VIP hall comes with its own in-house restaurant.
“Megaplex is our brand new concept, which shifts the experience of visiting the cinema to a new level. The new Megaplex offers an infinite number of variations to enjoy the movie of your preference,” says Cinema City new branch marketing director Robert Švec.
Moshe J. Greidinger, CEO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central and Eastern Europe will be on hand for the opening ceremonies next week.
As the latest chapter in country’s cinema-going history begins, another ends. It has been speculated that Galaxie Cinema City Haje, the Czech Republic’s first multiplex, could be closing down.
