Daily increase in number of new Czech COVID-19 cases continues to drop

Prague, April 20 (CTK) – The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Czechia rose by 92 to 6,746 on Sunday, the daily increase dropping for the fourth day in a row, and the total number of deaths and recoveries reaching 186 and 1,298 on Sunday evening, respectively, according to the Health Ministry’s data.

On Wednesday, the country saw 160 new cases, on Thursday 132, on Friday 116 and on Saturday 105.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the daily number of tested samples exceeded 8,000, and on Saturday 5,500.

Sunday’s number of tests is yet to be released.

A total of 168,000 coronavirus tests have been performed since the infection outbreak.

The number of the patients is the highest in Prague, almost 1,600, which is 117 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The Central Moravian Olomouc Region follows with 98 and the West Bohemian Plzen Region is in the third position with 96 patients per 100,000 inhabitants.

The least-afflicted region is South Bohemia, with 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Out of the 14 regions, Prague also registers the highest number of deaths of COVID-19 patients, 71.

Twenty patients have died in Moravia-Silesia and 19 in Central Bohemia. The number of victims is the lowest, only one, in the Zlin Region, southeast Moravia.

First three coronavirus cases were registered in the Czech Republic on March 1, and their number exceeded 3,300 at the end of March. The first patient died on March 22. Since then, there have been only two days without any death: March 23 and April 15, the ministry writes on its website.
