Beer right from the tank

Tank beer is unpasteurized, fresh and crisp. Thanks to being kept in a special beer tank, it does not come into contact with air and the distance it has to travel from the tank to the tap is very short. You can enjoy it these summer days on the pleasant roofed terrace at U Zábranských and also at Karlínská pivnice.

Fans of beer variations should visit Restaurace U Trumpety (The Trumpet). The place offers different pouring styles including Milk, Slice, Neat, and Crème. There are plenty of other pubs where you can get Pilsner beer from the tank – use the Pilsner Urquell Navigator to find them at www.pilsner-urquell.cz.

Like a different era

For those interested in Czech or world history, there is a lot to learn about over a pint of Pilsner in Prague. Enjoy 1920s and 1930s America at Restaurace Lapák (The Jail) in Kobylisy, whose interior brings back the atmosphere of the Prohibition Era.

Wander back to the times of the First Czechoslovak Republic and meet the famous literary figure of Good Soldier Švejk at Restaurace U Brázdů (The Brazdas).

The magic of the First Republic is also invoked at Lokál Hamburk (Hamburg Local), where you will drink your pint in the old style – standing, indoors or even outdoors in front of the pub.

Where to go for good goulash

Hardly anyone can resist good homemade goulash paired with Pilsner beer. Although goulash was originally a Turkish dish, its unique taste made it popular in this country as far back as the 18th century.

If you’ve just got the munchies, visit Kobyla (The Mare), a pub only a few steps from the Kobylisy Metro station, have goulash served with small potato pancakes, and wash it down with Pilsner lager.

Also Česká hospůdka na Radnici (Czech Tavern in The Town Hall) in Vysočany offers delicious goulash with a variety of dumplings and excellent Pilsner from the tank.

A TIP – A fairy tale featuring a delicious head of foam

The spirit of classic Slavic stories is represented by the wicked witch “Baba Yaga”, a fairy-tale figure notorious both in Bohemia and Moravia. In Prague, this legendary creature inspired the interior of Restaurace U Jagušky (The Jagushka Restaurant), whose walls feature paintings of hikers wrestling with Baba Yaga for a mug of beer.

But fear not, you won’t have to fight for your pint of Pilsner at this pub. Quite the opposite, the staff will treat you to great draught beer with a wonderful creamy head of foam.
