Number of Czech COVID-19 cases rises by 282 to 4472 on Saturday

Prague, April 5 (CTK) – The total number of COVID-19 cases in Czechia stood at 4,472 at midnight, which is an increase by 282 on Saturday, the number of tested samples reached 74,170, and a total of 59 patients have died and 78 recovered from the diesease, according to the Health Ministry’s latest data.

Saturday saw the recovery of four patients and the death of three, including one aged under 50.

The number of confirmed cases on Saturday was slightly lower than in Friday, when it was the record highest, 322, out of the past seven days. However, the number of newly confirmed cases a day usually depends on the number tested samples, which was the highest ever on Friday.

Out of the country’s 14 regions, more than one quarter of all coronavirus cases are in Prague, where the disease is also relatively the most widespread, with 83 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The South Bohemia Region is afflicted the least of all, with 19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Out of all Czech patients, 86 percent contracted the virus in the Czech Republic, the rest caught it abroad, mainly in Austria and Italy.

Among all age categories, the largest group with COVID-19, almost 20 percent, are people aged between 45 and 54. Seniors over 65, who are the most vulnerable group, make up almost 18 percent of all cases.

According to the ministry’s previous information, 380 COVID-19 patients stayed in hospital on Friday, including 87 in a serious condition. A total of 173 patients have left hospitals either as recovered or for home care.
