Winners of the 17th edition of the Czechia Grand Design awards, an annual competition that honors excellence in various mediums, including jewelry and graphic design, were announced this week.

Terezie Lexová and Štěpán Smetana were named the Grand Designers of 2022, marking their third consecutive win. The pair impressed the judges with their "hide and seek" sofa collection. The competition also recognized other noteworthy categories, such as photography and the "most interesting discovery" of 2022.  

Those interested in taking a closer look at the award-winning submissions and the artists' works can view them in photo form at Česká spořitelna gallery, in Prague 1. Entry is free and the exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until April 2.

Overall Grand Design winners

Liběna Rochová won the award for Fashion Designer of the Year with her Inside 23 collection.

Overall graphic design

The Readable Praha project was the overall winner of the graphic design category. It involves an easily readable and comprehensive transport-navigation system for Prague.

PHOTographer of the year

The 2022 Photographer of the Year was Iryna Drahun, a Belarusian working in Prague.

Illustrator of the Year

Jindřich Janíček was the 2022 Illustrator of the Year. He also won the award in 2018. He has created illustrations for books such as Lampička (A small lamp) and Ztracený svatý (Lost Saint).

Manufacture-designer of the year

The 2022 manufacture-designer award went to company AMPLLA for its innovative fire extinguisher which is both artistic and practical, as well as user-friendly.

Most interesting discovery of 2022

Designer Alena Konečná won the award for the most interesting discovery of 2022, with a phototherapy lamp - also acting as a table - that helps prevent problems caused by a lack of daylight.
