Prague, March 29 (CTK) – A nurse from the Thomayer Hospital in Prague, who contracted the new coronavirus, has died at home, the hospital’s spokesman Petr Sulek told CTK tonight.

“We will not provide any further information on her death with respect to the wish of the family,” Sulek said.

This has been the first known COVID-19 death among Czech medical workers.

Sixteen people infected with coronavirus have died in the Czech Republic so far, including three today. Until now, most of the dead have been elderly people who already suffered from serious health problems. More than 2,800 people have got infected in the country.

On Wednesday, the Thomayer Hospital announced that 13 senior citizens got infected with COVID-19 at its geriatric and follow-up care clinic and that one of them died.

On Friday, the hospital’s director Zdenek Benes said that 25 patients and two nurses got infected at the clinic in total. He said then both nurses in good condition and without a fever.

However, two nurses of the hospital’s pulmonary clinic, who cared for a patient with suspected pneumonia, got infected already before. This patient later tested positive for COVID-19 and he was moved to the Prague General Teaching Hospital because his condition was critical and he needed a cardiopulmonary bypass machine.
