ToFuj: Prague Police Bust Illegal Garage Tofu Factory

Findings from the Czech food inspection authority released earlier this year didn’t inspire much confidence in local hygiene conditions, with violations found in nearly one-third of inspected restaurants in 2015.

Earlier today, Prague police released a series of photographs of an illegal tofu manufacturing facility, which consists of buckets of soybean curd in a decrepit garage surrounded by mouse droppings and mold.

Or, as the official police website puts it, “totally unsatisfactory hygienic conditions.”

Police were made aware of the illegal tofu facility when they followed a “suspicious” supplier from the Sapa marketplace, where the tofu had been sold.

Together with the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority, police caught the suspect red-handed, during the sale of the illegal tofu.
