CINE-ANTICS

The highly anticipated third instalment of the hilariously gruesome and action-packed Deadpool series hits cinemas this weekend, screening at many locations around Prague. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds returns as the enigmatic red-suited antihero to team up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine against Emma Corrin’s villainous character. The premiere kicks off at Edison Filmhub tonight, July 25, and plenty of showtimes will be available across the weekend at other locations such as Cinema City.

The American Embassy and American Center in Prague are teaming up (in a less bloody way) to screen cult American films at Baden Baden Štvanice swimming pool, with the selection focused around the theme of water. The first pick is a cult favorite by indie filmmaker Wes Anderson, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The comedic adventure film follows an oceanographer as he sets off on an expedition to find an elusive jaguar shark that killed his work partner. Sit back in a deckchair with a beer in hand and enjoy the film tonight, July 25, projected in the outdoor surrounds of Prague’s Štvanice.

OLYMPIC SPIRIT

Czechia has been revving up to celebrate the 2024 Olympic Games, with a mini replica of the Eiffel Tower and extensive fan zone set up at Lake Most. Festivities will be ensuing in the capital, too, with a screening of the opening ceremony taking place at Manifesto Anděl on July 26. Ping-pong, beer pong, cornhole, and other table games will be set up at the venue - but make sure you reserve a spot.

PLUCKY PERFORMANCE

Ever wanted to try your hand at the ukulele? Or just enjoy the dulcet strums of the humble instrument? The 12th year of the Czech Ukulele Festival, the biggest and oldest in Europe, is taking place in the garden of the Na Hradbách pub in Vyšehrad on July 26 and Únětický pivovar for the remainder of the festival from July 27-28. Not only will a stacked lineup of talented bands and artists perform across the weekend, such as Dead Mans Uke (from the UK) and the Prague Ukulele Band, but ukulele, singing, and even yodeling workshops will be available to join for CZK 300-350.

Indonesian and African foods will be served up on the Smíchovská naplavka this Sunday, giving you a taste of some of the world’s best street food. Take your pick from fresh fish, burgers, golden-fried doughnuts, and more at this Summer Street Food Festival.

The Summer Počernicky Street Food Festival on July 28 will bring even more fare and Latin American music to Hotel Chvalské Tvrz. Beer from small breweries, wine, sweets, and more will be sprawled out at this location just near Chvalská Castle in Prague 20.

PANGOLIN PRONOUNCEMENT

Prague Zoo is naming their new baby pangolin, also known as a scaly anteater, in their Ceremonial Christening of the Pangolin on July 28. More than 2,500 name suggestions were submitted to the zoo by the public, with staff choosing Pangolina, Jane, Connie, Kyu-ka, and Pholi as the final options.
