BUBBLES AND BITES

Kick off this dewy summer weekend with a glass of chilled champagne at the popular Bublinky na Střeláku sparkling wine festival. On Aug. 2, Střelecký Island will be decorated with wine stalls selling the best bubbles from South Moravia along with international offerings. Live music and classy cuisine will accompany the fizzing frenzy.

On Sunday, the Summer Street Food stalls at Smíchovská naplavka return as usual, with fare ranging from African to Indonesian. If you’re on the hunt for a Sunday sweet treat, Spanish churros and light French macarons will be waiting for you.

EVENING TWANGS

Fans of both Americana and rousing rock’n’roll are in for a show this weekend, with two highly anticipated acts coming to Prague with guitars in tow. On Aug. 2, double threat film star and musician Kiefer Sutherland will perform in the open air at the Civic Swimming Pool. Combining bluesy, funky riffs with a country sensibility, Sutherland’s music will hang warmly in the evening air like fine whiskey.

If you’ve been missing a rambunctious, outrageous rockstar to be hooked on, Lias Saoudi of South London outfit Fat White Family will be making a ruckus at Kampus Hybernská on Aug. 4. As a self-described “erotic dissident”, Saoudi is one of the most captivating frontmen on the scene, and will bring a range of stripped-down (literally) solo performances and some experimental electronic works.

SUMMER CINEMA STAPLES

A sweaty live show may not be your cup of tea, but reclining comfortably in a chair in front of a projector and digging into some popcorn might be. In which case, you’re spoiled for choice - with not only a broad selection of films, but locations, too. You can pick this weekend from Jurassic Park: Domination at the Botanical Gardens on Aug. 2, Oppenheimer at Sunset Cinema on Aug. 2 and Mamma Mia on Aug. 4, and much more.

MINDFUL MOVING

Refresh and reset at Baden Baden Štvanice with a Vinyasa Flow yoga class by Yoga Collective. On the grass of the island, take care of your body with some Sunday morning stretches and mingle with fellow yogis. Entry to the class is by voluntary donation.

ART AND NATURE IN DIALOGUE

A guided English tour will be held at the Biennale Matter of Art exhibition on Aug. 3, which takes viewers through thought provoking discourse on the intersection of rural life and politics in Central and Eastern Europe. Curators have brought together diverse art that fuses agriculture, medicine, social movements, and more, in the Trade Fair Palace.

AQUATIC ACTION

Spectate the sport of slalom at Loděnice Troja on Aug. 2-4 for the international ICF Canoe Slalom Ranking Race, where senior and junior age categories will take to the water. Live commentary, a relax zone with free refreshments, and an Olympic-style atmosphere will take over the paddling area at the Troja site, attracting water sports enthusiasts and anyone looking for a weekend sport fix.

Keep the competitive spirit going and drop by Manifesto Market Anděl or Riegrovy sady beer garden for continued screenings of the 2024 Olympic Games. Cheer on your home country or simply come for the jovial vibes with a pint of pivo in hand and plenty of food at both locations.
