FESTIVALS AND EDM ECSTASY

Live music fans, particularly electronic music buffs, will be treated to a line-up of acts this weekend across several festivals and solo gigs. On July 19, the park Riegrovy sady will be transformed into an open-air festival of EDM headlined by French DJ Sébastien Léger and supported by Czech openers. Daydream Festival will be replete with flowing drinks, a chill zone with hookahs, and will move to Radost FX club for an after-party with the stars.

Frontline Festival 2024 will run from July 19 to 20 at Výstaviště, bringing Czech, Slovak, and foreign artists together for the biggest rap event in the Czech Republic. Smack One, Gleb, Rohony, and 58G are just some of the big names you can expect to see across the weekend.

Already in full swing, but with tickets still available, Colours of Ostrava brings a vibrant line-up of artists across varying genres each day until July 20. Beloved UK singer-songwriter James Blake, the ever-enigmatic Lenny Kravitz, modern reggae king Sean Paul, Swedish pop diva Zara Larsson, and more will take to the stage in the surroundings of Dolní Vítkovice.

Berlin-based producer Ben Böhmer is returning to Prague on July 21 after an acclaimed set in the city last year, this time setting up at Křižík's fountain at Výstaviště. His signature melodic house music will start at sunset, ending with an after-party in Křižík Pavilion C.

EATS FROM EAST TO WEST

Foodies are also in for a treat this weekend with a cluster of world cuisines popping up around the city. Perhaps you’re an expat from America missing your country’s comfort food, or just a barbecue lover in general - the Barbecue Festival: USA at Galerie Harfa will be right up your alley. On July 20, pork ribs, beef burgers, beef flank steak, grilled vegetables, and more will be on offer under the open sky on the rooftop. The event is part of a series of barbecues running until late September, focusing on different regions including South America, the Mediterranean, and the Czech Republic.

Over at Manifesto Anděl, flavors of the Orient will be parsed out for their Turkish Weekend running July 20-21. Šéf Kemal Restaurant will be on site as a vendor serving delicacies of Turkish cuisine, along with Nemrut Coffee, serving traditional Turkish and sand coffee. You can also expect live music from Divane and vendors of oriental goods.

How do locusts in banana batter or Indian-style fireflies sound to you? What about sweet mealworms with apples or skewers of insects? Find out for yourself if this non-traditional cuisine will tickle your tastebuds (the right way). The Weekend of Insectivores at Prague Zoo is back on July 20-21, with an expansive insect menu and packaged food products available for purchase. If you’re not game to try the menu yourself, you can go along for the commentated feedings of insect-eating animals in the zoo, such as the meerkats and Gobi reptiles.

PLOT OF PASSION

An electric love story led by Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian screens at Edison Filmhub on July 22. Love Lies Bleeding has been described as a “romantic thriller” and follows the lesbian relationship between a gym manager and bodybuilder against the backdrop of organized crime. The film has received critical acclaim since its premiere at Sundance Film Festival.

LITTLE RAVERS

Festival Zlobení will be a veritable gold mine for children this weekend as the second year of this open-air festival brings theater, music, and more to the Gabriel Loci old monastic house. You and your children can look forward to fairy tales told through puppetry, a magic and balloon show, and even a techno rave party that all ages can enjoy.

TENNIS TUSSLES AND TEST DRIVES

Don’t miss Czechia’s biggest tennis event of the year, which has been played in Stromovka Park since 2010, now adapted to mimic the clay grounds of the upcoming Olympics in Paris. The Livesport Prague Open 2024 will take place at TK Sparta this year, where the fifteenth edition of the international women’s tennis tournament will see players go racket-to-racket from July 21-26.

Petrol Palace 2024 brings together cars, food, and Troja Castle; what more could you want on a sunny weekend afternoon? From July 21-22, you can view (and even test drive if you win the raffle) new Volkswagen, Audi, Cupra, and Subaru cars. Workshops and special guests such as known car enthusiasts, drifters, and YouTuber Samuel Miščík (StudioMoonTV) will be in attendance.
