Prague Zoo accepting food gifts for animals on Christmas Eve

Going to Prague Zoo on Christmas has been a growing tradition for the past several years. On December 24, visitors can expect commented feedings (in Czech) and meetings, seal performances, or seeing a golden pig, which a Czech tradition. Children up to 15 years of age can enter for only 1 CZK that day. People can also bring food for the animals. In the Czech Republic, most celebrating takes place December 24, and not the following day.

Before that, on December 22, visitors can look also forward to celebrating the seventh birthday of the gorilla Nurua.

Pavilions and restaurants in Prague Zoo will be open on December 24 until 2 pm, and the area will remain open until 4 pm. People can bring edible gifts that will be handed over to the animals in the coming days. Visitors can bring vegetables, fruits, dry bread, nuts or biscuits at the main entrance, and bed sheets for the orangutans. Visitors themselves will receive a small gift.

In
the past, people have literally brought tons of food for the animals,
which helps the zoo save on its food budget.

Feedings
and meetings will take place until 1:30 pm, and at 1 pm a special
show with a golden pig in the Bororo Reserve is scheduled. At 1:30 pm
a seal performance ends the special Christmas program.

On
25 and 26 December, a Christmas program will be held in the Bororo
Reserve with domesticated animals and under the Christmas tree and
small presents for children. On December 28–30, commented feedings
will continue with a handover of some gifts that visitors brought on
Christmas Eve and unused Christmas trees.

Prague
Zoo was ranked the fifth-best in the world by users of the travel
site TripAdvisor in 2017.

The
zoo currently covers 58 hectares with 50 hectares used for exhibits.
It has over 4,700 animals from 681 species, including 144 species
listed as threatened. The zoo has 12 pavilions and over 150 exhibits.
Om 2019, almost 1,300 animals were born at the zoo, including several
endangered species.

The
zoo as of May 31, 2018, has been entirely non-smoking. It also has
several WiFi spots so people can send photos over social media.
