Production Continues on New TV Series in Prague after Fire

On Friday, August 26, Prague’s Barrandov Studio went up in flames when an extensive wooden medieval village set was almost completely destroyed in a large-scale fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be revealed.

The medieval set was an integral part of production on the new TV series Knightfall, which is being produced for the US network History Channel, following in the footsteps of their popular show Vikings.

The series is one of the biggest productions to shoot in the Czech Republic over the course of 2016, and expected to spend around 1 billion CZK in the country.

After the extensive fire, however, production on the series seemed like it might be in jeopardy. Firefighters estimated the damages at 100 million CZK.

As of early last week, production on the series had already resumed, with producers confirming that the project is committed to remaining in Prague.

Production on Knightfall is expected to continue in Prague and Barrandov Studios throughout the rest of 2016. The series is produced by Avengers star Jeremy Renner, in Prague for at least part of the production, who also has a minor role in the series.  

Outside of Barrandov, external shooting at locations recreating medieval Paris is expected to take place in villages around the Czech capital including Průhonice and Doksany. Some sequences will also be shot in central Prague.  

Knightfall, which recounts the fall of the Knights Templar in the 14th century, co-stars Tom Cullen (Weekend), Bobby Schofield, Sabrina Bartlett, and Julian Ovenden.

The series is set to premiere on the History Channel in the US at the end of 2016.
