A flight originating in Hanover and bound for Vienna was forced to make an emergency landing at Prague’s Vaclav Havel airport yesterday evening due to smoke detected in the baggage compartment.

At the time of landing, passengeres were evacuated from the Eurowings Airbus to await emergency services and medics. There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the smoke in the cargo is still being investigated, though firefighters on the scene said that there was no fire.

Due to the emergency situation, Prague airtraffic was significantly restricted, some flights were denied boarding in Prague and others could not take off.

Normal airport operations were restored around 19:00 although the flight remained grounded for nearly 4 hours following the incident.
