Critical Mass, the protest rides (or cycling celebrations) that see bikers take to the streets in droves, have spread to hundreds of cities throughout the world in recent years. Including Prague.
It’s a “clothing optional” event that has seen nude cyclists bike through cities throughout the world, including London, Toronto, and Washington DC. Nudity is encouraged, but not mandatory.
Next Saturday, the tentative route for Prague’s nude ride is scheduled from Kampa to FKK Braník, passing through Staroměstske naměstí, Můstek, and Václavske naměstí along the way.
Start time on Kampa is 13:00, with the ride expected to last two hours.
Prague’s version of the World Naked Bike Ride is being organized by local nudist and activist Mira Ahimsa, who recently gave an interesting interview with Blesk.
The aim of the event, according to its Facebook description, is to encourage a shift towards a car-free lifestyle, and face automobile traffic in the nude to expose the vulnerability of cyclists and pedestrians to cars.
If you’re too shy to go full frontal but want to participate in similar actions, the local organizations Cyklojízdy and Auto*Mat organize frequent fully-clothed Critical Mass events.
