There are now 631 confirmed coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic, with 59 new cases so far today

Prague, March 19 (CTK) – The number of the confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 631 in the Czech Republic this afternoon, 59 more than in the morning, the Czech Health Ministry has said on its website.

A total of 9,400 coronavirus tests have been conducted. Three patients have fully recovered from the disease.

On Wednesday, laboratories took the samples of 1,738 people. The number of the tested keeps rising.

Health Minister Adam Vojtech (for ANO) said five ill were in a serious condition. Four have been put on mechanical ventilators and one needs a cardiopulmonary bypass.

According to the latest data, there were 450 cases on Tuesday midnight and 560 on Wednesday midnight. By 9:00, the number rose to 572, and by 15:00 the number was 631.

According to information released Thursday morning, the biggest number of infected people is still in Prague (198), followed by Central Bohemia (56), the Olomouc Region (54) and Moravia-Silesia (51).

The lowest number of infected persons is still in the Liberec Region with six patients.

Most of the ill are at the age of 25-34, making up almost one-fifth of the total number. In it, there are almost 17 percent of the elderly over 65, the most jeopardised group.

In all, 44 percent of the patients got infected abroad, the rest in the Czech Republic. Czechs mainly “imported” the infection from Italy, followed by Austria, Germany and the USA.

The coronavirus infection appeared in the Czech Republic on March 1. A state of emergency was declared over it, seriously curtailing movement of people. As of midnight, people are banned to be outside without their nose and mouth covered. Food shops and pharmacies are open only for people aged over 65 from 10:00 to 12:00 as of today.
