Euromonitor International unveiled its Top 100 City Destinations Ranking 2017 Edition yesterday, highlighting the future of travel trends and some of the challenges the world’s cities will continue to face.

Asian cities dominate the global tourist destination rankings with Hong Kong the most visited city in the world.

In Europe, the Eurozone, migrant crisis, and Brexit, have all impacted the tourism industry. Visitor numbers to America are down and tourism growth expected to fall further if borders are tightened.

In the Czech Republic, arrivals to Prague are up from last year by nearly 5 percent. The Czech capital is the fifth-most visited destination in Europe and ranks number 18 in the world for inbound arrivals, up four spots from number 22 last year.

In its insights for the European region, the study notes that mass tourism, while important to many local and national economies, is seeing overcrowding change the perception of its benefits.

The ranking is based on Euromonitor International’s research in 100 countries and is based on the number of international arrivals that spend 24 hours or more in a city.
