Flights: Your best bet for flights to Venice is Alitalia (they’re currently offering a special). In October a flight for two was 440 EUR. A flight for two in November was 200 EUR! Wizz Air flies there as well, but they only offer Saturday and Tuesday flights and fly to the Treviso airport, which requires an approximately 60 minute trip to get Venice.
From Venice’s Marco Polo airport you can take the ACTV bus (line 5) for 5 EUR or the express ATVO for 7 EUR one way/13 EUR roundtrip. Both lines will lead you to Piazzale Roma from where you can walk or take a water bus (vaporetto) – also run by ACTV – to your hotel. From the Treviso airport, you can also use the ATVO bus service.
Where to stay: Among Venice’s six main quarters (sestieri), Canareggio offers a more authentic experience (as there are actually some locals who live there) and slightly cheaper accommodation as it is off the beaten track. The Castello district offers the same and is home to the famous Venice Biennale, which is going on now until the end of November.
Events: La Biennale (through November), All Saints Day (Nov 1, public holiday), Opera season at La Fenice
