2019 has been Prague's hottest summer on record

Prague, Sept 6 (CTK) – This summer in Prague’s city center, with an average temperature of 22.9 degrees centigrade, has been the hottest since 1775 when temperatures started being recorded at the oldest weather observatory in the country at Klementinum, meteorologists reported today.

This summer average temperature has even beaten last year’s record by 0.2 degrees, mainly thanks to the extremely warm June, meteorologists said on the www.infomet.cz website.

“This summer has been the first in 245 years of measuring the temperature. Consequently, it has been the hottest summer in Prague-Klementinum since 1775, even warmer than the so far warmest summer in 2018 with the average temperature of 22.7 degrees centigrade,” meteorologist Pavel Juza said.

The third warmest summer in Prague centre since 1775 was in 2003 (the average temperature of 22.4 degrees centigrade), followed by the 2015 summer (22.3 degrees centigrade).

The previous record scored at Klementinum in the summer of 1834 (22.1 degrees centigrade) was not beaten for almost 150 years, Juza added.
